Te Whare Hono o Tūwharetoa Limited Partnership is an entity representing various Ngāti Tūwharetoa trusts and companies that have purchased the former Taupō RSA site at 67 Horomatangi Street from the Taupō District Council to develop a new civic administration building. Taupō District Council will lease the majority of the building and there will be co-tenancy space for Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board, Tūwharetoa Settlement Trust and Ngāti Tūwharetoa Fisheries Charitable Trust. The project will create a taonga of significance to the Taupō District.
The new civic administration building is about creating an enduring relationship between council and the mana whenua of this rohe and symbolises a true partnership between the Council and Tūwharetoa. The building itself tells a story with the artwork and cultural themes integrated into the building on the external facades, each space within the building, and throughout the multi-level atrium.
The building creates efficiencies by bringing council staff who are presently spread across five different sites all together under one roof. The 3-level building will be built to importance, and level 4 for seismic resilience as well.
