Heritage listed with the first high-rise curtain wall façade constructed in New Zealand, the seismic strengthening and re-development of Massey House at 126 Lambton Quay was a project that required Egmont Dixon’s close Project Management oversight from design through to the completion of construction works.
The base-building(s) consisted of two seismically separated, though interconnected buildings: the original 8-storey structure, built in 1955, and the second extension tower that extended the floor plate of each level - constructed in 1967. Accordingly, new concrete shear walls and internal structural steel installations were incorporated into the design to bring the building to 100% NBS.
By working closely with the building owner, lessees, separate construction teams, and all associated consultants, the occupation of new grade-A office spaces in the heart of the CBD went ahead as required.
