Totalling 106 apartments across 13 storeys in the heart of Wellington’s CBD, Education House is a conversion project lead by Egmont Dixon where an aged commercial office building was transformed into modern apartments.
The seismic upgrade scheme for this project included; upgrades to ground beams, Fibre reinforced polymer strengthening to columns and shear walls, and new angle brackets supporting the existing Vibradec flooring system – bringing the 1970’s tower up to over 80% NBS.
The goal of the project was to help alleviate housing pressures for inner-city living and draw young professionals into the city in partnership with Wellington City Council’s Te Kainga housing scheme.
Egmont Dixon managed the entire conversion & refurbishment process for this project, including oversight of the new seismic strengthening scheme and fit-out design, construction management, and handover of the building to key stakeholders and building management who would support the building end users.
