Te Puna Wai papākainga, situated in Wainuiomata, was developed in partnership by Taranaki Whānui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika (Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust) with The Wellington Company to accommodate Taranaki Whānui uri.

Taranaki Whanui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika engaged Egmont Dixon to complete a development review of a proposed papākainga housing development located on the former Wainuiomata Primary and Intermediate College site. This review involved understanding housing requirements, master planning, feasibilities and developing the strategy to deliver homes for uri. This development review resulted in a development refresh, and a revised development proposal being implemented. To date the site has been fully consented, providing for the development potential of over 180 units.

A project that brings great satisfaction in delivering healthy, affordable homes for those in need, stage 1a of the papakāinga includes 19 whare, all owned by uri, and 11 kaumātua units which the Trust, through Home in Place made available for eligible uri as social housing rentals.

Our team worked closely with the architects - Prime Design and builder - Friday Homes to ensure that an efficient and cost-effective design was completed, increasing the yield of housing on the site. The remaining site provides ongoing certainty for the Trust and its uri, ensuring long-term housing options are available locally.
