Services: Master Planning, Development Management & Project Management

Value: $3M

Completion Date: Due for completion in May 2025

The Urenui Pā redevelopment marks the most significant upgrade to the pā in nearly a century, reflecting Ngāti Mutunga's enduring resilience and commitment to their people. The project involves the comprehensive redevelopment of the Pā, the only remaining marae of Ngāti Mutunga that has been the cultural heart and gathering place of the Iwi since the early 18702 and continues to serve as a central hub for Ngāti Mutunga, fostering cultural, social and economic growth. Egmont Dixon was engaged to undertake full management of the project including development and project management, and planning services.

Key elements of the redevelopment include modernising existing facilities, enhancing communal spaces, and ensuring the infrastructure aligns with the needs of current and future generations.  Plans include the reconstruction of the wharenui (meeting house) and complete restoration of Mahi Tamariki, a pre-1900s heritage-listed building that is of great historical and cultural significance to Ngāti Mutunga.

Environmental sustainability is a core focus, with site-wide landscaping designed to preserve natural features and includes accessibility upgrades, creating spaces that welcome whanau of all ages and abilities.
